explain..
why nyc schools would contemplate teaching kindergartners about hiv/aids? i just think that may be taking it to an extreme level. my roommate made the important point that it would be less worse if they're teaching it within a course on other diseases as well. i see that argument, but at the same time, just wonder if that's something that can wait till later, considering it is an STD or a drug-habit effect. i guess i'm trying to say that cancer, heart disease, diabetes are conditions that occur even in a low-risk lifestyle. yes, by living an unhealthy lifestyle you run the risk of developing these diseases, but preventing hiv/aids requires a sex/drug conversation with kids who are 5. i just think it is too early to be mandating a conversation about this. it just makes me think of my childhood... which was largely untouched by all these things for a long time. i wish kids today had the luxury of being innocent about these issues until they are a little older.
